SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 E61

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 – 2TB & 8TB

Take your files wherever work and creativity take you with the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2, a compact, high-speed external solid-state drive designed for people who need fast transfers, generous storage and a rugged portable design. Available in 2TB and 8TB capacities, this portable SSD is ideal for backing up important files, carrying large media libraries, transferring projects between computers and storing high-resolution photos and videos.

Shop the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 at FancyTech in Kenya and choose the storage capacity that best suits your needs. With a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, advertised read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s, it offers a convenient way to move large files without relying on a bulky desktop storage drive. Actual performance depends on your computer, USB port, cable, workload and other operating conditions.

Key Features of the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2

1. Choose between 2TB and 8TB storage

Select the capacity that suits your workload. The 2TB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is a practical option for everyday backups, work documents, photos, videos and creative projects. The 8TB version offers substantially more space for larger media collections, extensive project archives and users who work with significant amounts of data.

Both capacities belong to the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD family. Check the selected capacity and model number carefully before ordering.

2. Fast transfers with USB 3.2 Gen 2

Spend less time waiting for files to transfer. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 supports USB 3.2 Gen 2, with advertised sequential performance of up to 1,050MB/s read and 1,000MB/s write.

These speeds make it useful for moving large folders, copying video footage, backing up computers and transferring files between compatible devices. To get the best performance, connect it to a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and use the supplied or an appropriately rated cable.

Actual transfer speeds can vary and may be lower when connected to slower USB ports, older computers or devices with other performance limitations.

3. Compact, rugged design for life on the move

Built for portability, the drive has a compact body with a protective silicone shell and a carabiner loop that makes it convenient to attach to suitable bags or equipment. Its design is useful for photographers, content creators, students and professionals who regularly carry important files between locations.

The product family is specified with IP65 water and dust resistance and drop protection of up to 3 metres under the manufacturer's stated test conditions. These ratings do not make the drive waterproof or indestructible. Keep its connector clean and dry, and avoid exposing it to conditions outside its specified limits.

4. Portable storage without a separate power adapter

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is bus-powered, meaning it draws power through its USB connection rather than requiring a separate external power supply. This helps reduce cable clutter when working from a laptop, desktop or other compatible host device.

Its small footprint makes it suitable for a desk, laptop bag, travel kit or mobile workstation.

5. USB-C connection with a USB-A adapter included

The drive uses a USB-C connection and the standard package includes a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. This offers flexibility when connecting to compatible newer USB-C computers and devices, as well as supported equipment with a USB-A port.

The port and cable determine the connection speed. An adapter can help with physical compatibility, but it does not make a slower USB port perform at USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds.

6. Password protection and hardware encryption support

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 supports password protection using 256-bit AES hardware encryption through compatible SanDisk security software. This can add a layer of protection to sensitive work files, private documents and personal backups.

Security features require the appropriate software and a supported operating system. SanDisk's documented password-protection feature is not compatible with USB-C smartphones, including Android devices, so verify the supported setup before relying on it for a particular device.

7. A useful drive for creative work and everyday backups

The combination of fast transfers and portable storage makes the drive useful for a variety of workflows, including:

• Backing up documents, presentations and business files.

• Keeping photo libraries and video footage organised.

• Moving design assets and creative projects between workstations.

• Storing music, films and other personal media.

• Maintaining a separate copy of important files.

• Carrying project folders when working between home, office and client locations.

For important information, use the SSD as part of a backup plan rather than as the only place where your files are stored.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 Specifications

Specifications are based on SanDisk's product-family information and the supplied 2TB retailer reference. Confirm the exact SKU, accessories, regional warranty and compatibility before purchase. Advertised capacity is measured in decimal units, so the capacity displayed by an operating system may be lower.

Which capacity should you choose?

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 2TB

Choose 2TB if you want a high-capacity portable SSD for everyday work, regular backups, photographs, documents, videos and a manageable collection of creative projects. It provides substantial storage while keeping the cost and capacity commitment below the 8TB option.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 8TB

Choose 8TB if you need more room for large video libraries, extensive photo collections, multiple projects or long-term file archives. It is particularly attractive when you want to carry a large amount of data in one portable drive rather than split it across several smaller drives.

The right choice depends on your file sizes, backup habits, future storage needs and budget. Always maintain another copy of critical files.

Compatibility and setup

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is designed for use with compatible USB-C devices, including laptops, desktop computers and supported mobile devices. SanDisk lists support for Windows 10 or later, macOS 11 or later and compatible USB-C devices; requirements may differ by device, operating system and software version.

Before use:

1. Confirm that your computer or device supports the drive's connection and file system.

2. Connect using the supplied cable or a suitable compatible cable.

3. If required, format the drive for your intended operating systems. Formatting erases existing data, so back up any files first.

4. For password protection, install the supported SanDisk security software and check the operating-system requirements.

5. Safely eject the drive before disconnecting it to reduce the risk of file corruption.

For mobile devices, check available power, USB support, file-system compatibility and app requirements before purchasing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 available in 2TB and 8TB?

Yes. SanDisk lists both 2TB and 8TB capacities in this product family. The 2TB model referenced by B&H has model number SDSSDE61-2T00-G25, while the 8TB black model is listed as SDSSDE61-8T00-G25. Confirm that the selected option matches the capacity you want.

How fast is the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2?

It is advertised with read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. Actual performance depends on the host device, USB interface, cable, workload and other conditions.

Is the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 waterproof?

It has an IP65 water- and dust-resistance rating under specified test conditions, but it should not be described as waterproof. Keep it clean and dry before reconnecting it, and avoid submerging it.

Can I use this SSD with a MacBook or Windows laptop?

It is compatible with supported Windows and macOS computers. Check the operating-system version, USB connection and file-system requirements for your particular device.

Can I connect the SSD to a smartphone?

It can work with compatible USB-C smartphones and tablets, subject to device support, power requirements and file-system compatibility. Password-protection support has separate limitations and is not compatible with USB-C smartphones, including Android devices.

Does the drive include a cable?

The standard package includes a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Confirm the accessories supplied with the specific item you purchase.

Is the 8TB model faster than the 2TB model?

The product family advertises maximum read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. Do not assume the 8TB model will always be faster: actual performance depends on the drive, device, connection and workload.

Is an external SSD a complete backup solution?

No. An external SSD is useful for backup and file storage, but important files should also be kept in another independent location, such as a second drive or a secure cloud backup.

What warranty does the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 have?

The product family is listed with a five-year limited warranty. Actual coverage and claim procedures depend on regional terms and the supplied product. Confirm warranty coverage for the exact unit before purchase.
